Laburnum alpinum pendulum

Golden Chain Tree

Laburnum pendulum is a stunning variety of the commonly known, Golden Chain tree, and has a pendulous growth habit. It features clusters of scented, bright yellow, pea-like flowers held off weeping stems through summer. The flowers literally transform the tree and result in brown seedpods in autumn. The foliage comprises mid-green leaves which develop only slight yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows with a rounded shape to about 2.5 m tall and 2 m wide, and performs best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of short periods of dry, cool climates, and frost. This tree is ideal for growing as a small specimen, maintaining in a courtyard garden, or growing in a large pot. It also makes for a lovely inclusion in a mixed planting where it can add height and variety. NB: all parts of this plant are poisonous.
