This variety of Laurel is grown for its compact growth habit and elegant foliage. This evergreen tree features lush, dark green leaves which are aromatic when crushed. Flowers produced in spring are pale yellow-green and result in small, glossy, black berries. It typically grows 5 m tall and 4 m wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. This Laurel grows best when planted on a well-drained site in full sun. It is tolerant of frost, dry periods, and moderate wind but should be protected while it is establishing. This Laurel is great for trimming into a hedge, using for screening, planting as a backdrop for smaller plants, maintaining in a container, trimming into a topiary shape, or growing as a specimen. The leaves on this variety are the well-known, Bay Leaves, and can be used fresh or dry in cooking to add flavour to dishes.
