“Amethyst Flame” is a smaller variety of Magnolia grown for its spectacular and beautiful flowers. It bears masses of large and showy, bright red-purple flowers in late winter and early spring on the naked stems, before the foliage emerges. The lush, dark green foliage emerges soon after, remains this colour until autumn, then develops yellow tones before falling. It typically grows to 2.5 m tall and 1.5 m wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. This Magnolia grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, and is tolerant of frost and cool climates. “Amethyst Flame” is commonly grown as a specimen, added to a mixed planting, included in cottage gardens, planted around outdoor living areas, or used line or border an entrance. The beauty of this tree will please no matter where it is planted.
