Magnolia Athene is an outstanding variety due to its spectacular flowering. Through late winter and early spring, it bears masses of fragrant, white flowers flushed with rose-pink at the base. The cup shaped flowers are borne on the naked stems before the foliage emerges. Foliage emerges soon after and is large, dark green, and lush. It typically grows to 8 m tall and 4 m wide and responds well to trimming. Magnolia Athene grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates. It is ideal as a specimen tree, adding into mixed plantings, or trimming into a hedge. The beauty of this tree will please no matter where it is planted.
