“Billowing Cloud” is an impressive variety of Magnolia due to its pristine and fragrant flowers. It bears masses of large and showy, white flowers with a blush of pink at the base from late winter until early spring. The flowers are borne on the naked stems before the foliage emerges. The lush foliage is dark green and takes on yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows with a rounded habit to about 4 m tall and 3 m wide and can easily be contained with trimming. This variety grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, and is tolerant of frost and cool climates. “Billowing Cloud” is commonly grown as a specimen, included in a mixed planting, added to a cottage garden, or grown as a backdrop for smaller plants.
