Magnolia grandiflora, commonly known as Southern Magnolia, Evergreen Magnolia, or Bull Bay, is an evergreen tree featuring dark green foliage that becomes adorned with large, white, fragrant flowers up to 20 cm in diameter through spring and summer. It can reach upwards of 25 m tall and 20 m wide but can be contained with trimming. Magnolia grandiflora makes for a lovely specimen tree and is also commonly used for avenue planting, or included in a “white” garden.

Magnolia grandiflora Details

Magnolia grandiflora, commonly known as Southern Magnolia, Evergreen Magnolia, or Bull Bay, is an evergreen tree featuring large and glossy foliage and impressive flowers. The dark green foliage is lush and become adorned with large, white, fragrant flowers up to 20 cm in diameter through spring and summer. It can reach upwards of 25 m tall and 20 m wide but can be contained with trimming. This Magnolia grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates though should be protected while it is establishing. Magnolia grandiflora makes for a lovely specimen tree and is also commonly used for avenue planting, or included in a “white” garden. The beauty of this tree will please no matter where it is used.
