“Gorgeous” is a variety of Crabapple grown for its flowering, colourful fruits, and great form. It bears masses of crimson buds that open into showy, white flowers with a hint of pink in spring. These result in small, red fruit in autumn which attract all manner of wildlife. The foliage emerges mid-green in spring, darkens during summer, then develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. The branches tend to be horizontal, if not somewhat pendulous in nature which creates a lovely an umbrella shaped tree. It typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. “Gorgeous” performs best when grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site that does not dry out. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates. This Crabapple is commonly grown as an impressive specimen, added to a mixed planting, used in avenue plantings, grown to border an entrance, included in cottage gardens, or grown anywhere it can be appreciated.
