Malus Red Top is a variety of Crabapple grown for its colourful fruits and flowers. Rose coloured flower buds open into showy, single, red-pink blossoms in spring just as the foliage emerges. The flowers result in large crops of small, red fruit which can be made into Crabapple jelly, and are loved by birds. The glossy leaves emerge red, age to green, then develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 4 m tall and 3 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a fertile, well-drained site, protected from wind. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though late frosts in spring can reduce yields.
