This variety of Crabapple is grown for its flowers and tidy growth habit. White flower buds open to reveal showy, white blossoms in spring amidst the lush foliage. The flowers result in small, inedible, green fruits in autumn. The maple-like leaves emerge green in spring, age to a darker green, then develop burgundy red tones in autumn before falling. It grows with a conical shape to 6 m tall and 3 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a fertile, well-drained site, protected from wind. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though late frosts in spring can reduce yields. This Crabapple is commonly grown as a specimen or used for avenue planting. It is a showy tree with great symmetry that is favoured by landscape designers.
