Metrosideros robusta Kawa Copper is a variety of the commonly known, Northern Rata, and is a NZ native tree grown for its flowers and foliage. The lush foliage emerges copper-red and ages to become dark green which results in dual colourings through active growth periods. The foliage is adorned with masses of bright red flowers in summer. This evergreen grows with an open and spreading habit to about 15 m tall 6 m wide, preferring a full sun or partial shade position on a well-drained site. It will tolerate shade, moderate frost, cool climates, and a range of soil conditions, barring extreme wet. Metrosideros Kawa Copper is commonly included in a mixed planting in a large garden, used in native revegetation programs, or grown as a lovely specimen.
