Nothofagus Cliffortioides, commonly known as Mountain Beech, is a large, evergreen tree native to NZ. The foliage comprises small, dark green leaves which are held densely of short stems in fan-like sprays. Masses of tiny, red flowers are borne across the tree in spring. It grows with a broad and somewhat rounded habit to about 30 m tall and 12 m wide. Nothofagus Cliffortioides makes for a lovely specimen in a larger garden or park, and is commonly added to native and revegetation plantings.
