Tawapou, Tawapou Tree, Tawapou Plant
Planchonella costata, commonly known as Tawapou, is an attractive, NZ native tree featuring glossy, dark green foliage. Small, green coloured flowers are borne in summer and result in large red-orange berries in autumn which are great for attracting birds. It grows slowly with an upright and tidy habit to about 15 m tall and 8 m wide. Tawapou is most commonly used in revegetation plantings, included in a large garden to attract birds, grown as a specimen, used in avenue plantings, or added to a coastal planting.
