Platanus orientalis Digitata is a variety of the commonly known, Oriental Plane Tree, and is grown for its colourful foliage and tidy growth habit. The lush foliage emerges deep green in spring, remains this colour through summer, then develops colourful orange and yellow tones in autumn before falling. The leaves on this variety tend to have deeper lobes than other varieties. It also features attractive bark which flakes off to give a speckled appearance on the trunk. It grows with a broad crown to about 12 m tall and 8 m wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. It grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site, and is tolerant of frost, cool climates, urban pollution, and moderate wind.
