“Okame” is a variety of Flowering Cherry that features masses of fragrant, pink blossoms in early spring. The pretty flowers are borne before the leaves emerge and turn the tree into a spectre of colour. The leaves emerge light green, age to become a darker green, then develop colourful orange and red tones in autumn before falling. It grows with a broad and rounded habit to about 10 m tall and 6 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and short periods of dry. “Okame” is a stunning tree when in flower and is commonly grown as a specimen. It can also be used in avenue plantings or included in a mixed planting.
