“Kea” is a variety of Ornamental Pear grown for its flowering, tidy form, and autumn colours. It features deep green, wavy foliage that develops burgundy red-brown tones in autumn before falling. Masses of single, white flowers are borne in spring just as the leaves emerge. It produces a single trunk and grows initially with a pyramidal habit but later develops a broad crown, typically reaching 10 m tall and 6 m wide. Best results with this tree are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, wind, dry periods, and heavy soils. “Kea” is commonly used for street or avenue planting, grown as specimen, or added to a mixed planting in a larger garden.
