Salix alba Britzensis Details

Salix alba Britzensis is grown for its colourful stems and foliage. This deciduous tree grows with multiple, upright, bright red-orange stems. When the leaves fall the showy and colourful stems are exposed. The foliage comprises narrow, green leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It can grow to 15 m tall and 8 m wide but is usually trimmed to sizes much less than this to encourage the young, colourful stems to be produced. This tree performs best in full sun or partial shade on soils that remain consistently moist. It will tolerate frost and cool climates but does not do well with extended dry periods. Salix alba Britzensis is commonly used for planting around water features, to provide winter interest, contained as a feature in a mixed planting, or as a backdrop for smaller plants. It is also well suited to riparian planting to reduce erosion.
