Salix babylonica, commonly known as the Green Weeping Willow, is a deciduous tree grown for its cascading foliage. The foliage comprises bright green leaves, which age to become dark green, then develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. The leaves are held on pendulous branches which will reach to the ground as it grows to 10 m tall and the same wide. Salix babylonica is commonly planted around water features, grown as a specimen, or included in a mixed planting in a large garden.

Salix babylonica Details

Salix babylonica, commonly known as the Green Weeping Willow, is a deciduous tree grown for its cascading foliage. The foliage comprises bright green leaves, which age to become dark green, then develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. The leaves are held on pendulous branches which will reach to the ground. It typically grows to 10 m tall and the same wide but can be trimmed as necessary. This tree performs best when planted in full sun or partial shade on soils that remain consistently moist. It will tolerate frost and cool climates but does not cope with extended dry periods. Salix babylonica is commonly planted around water features, grown as a specimen, or included in a mixed planting in a large garden.
