Salix daphnoides, Violet Willow, Daphnoides, S daphnoides, Daphnoides Willow
Salix daphnoides, commonly known as the Violet Willow, is a deciduous tree grown for its impressive flowers. Before the foliage emerges in late winter, male trees produce a showy display of cream coloured, woolly flowers (catkins). The foliage comprises bright green leaves, which age to dark green, then develop yellow tones in autumn before falling as it grows to 7 m tall and 4 m wide. Salix daphnoides is commonly planted around water features, to provide winter interest, or as a feature in a mixed planting.
