Firewheel Tree, White Beefwood, Tulip Flower, White Oak
Commonly known as the Firewheel Tree, this is a widely planted ornamental tree. Its popularity comes from the unusual flowers which resemble a wheel of fire. They are bright red with a circular formation and borne from summer through autumn. These result in a red fruit which are held from autumn through winter. The leaves on this evergreen are glossy, mid-green, and held reasonably densely. It grows with an upright habit to about 10 m tall and 4 m wide, performing best when planted on a well-drained site in full sun. It will tolerate wetter soils, light frost, and moderate wind but will benefit from protection while it is establishing. The Firewheel Tree is commonly grown as a specimen tree, used for avenue planting, or grown simply for its interesting flowers.
