Sycoparrotia semidecidua

Sycoparrotia semidecidua is a deciduous tree grown for its colourful autumn foliage and great form. The leaves emerge light green in spring, quickly age to dark green, then take on vibrant dark red, orange, and yellow tones in autumn before falling. An interesting feature of this tree are the small red flowers in winter which are borne on the bare branches. It grows with a rounded habit and will eventually reach 6 m tall and the same wide. After 10 years it has usually reached 4 m tall and the same wide. Best results with this tree are achieved when it is grown on a well-drained site in full sun. It is a hardy plant that will tolerate frost, cool climates, coastal environments, dry periods, and moderate wind. This tree is commonly grown as a specimen, added to a mixed planting in a larger garden, used in avenue plantings, or pleached into a colourful hedge.
