Taxodium mucronatum, commonly known as the Montezuma Cypress, is a large and stately, evergreen tree native to Mexico. It has a broad, spreading crown with strong, horizontal branches that host weeping branchlets with flattened, bright green needles. This a long-lived tree that can reach sizes of 40 m tall and 20 m wide with a trunk diameter of over 2 m. Best results with this tree are achieved when grown in full on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of extended dry conditions, moderate frost, and occasional flooding. Taxodium mucronatum is commonly grown as a specimen in a large garden.
